GDS and Third-Party Technology Providers: Multi-Source Agent Point-of-Sale

Travelport has Universal Desktop, Amadeus has Amadeus One, Sabre has Red Workplace. These GDSs are not the only providers of point-of-sale (POS) applications, far from it.

While most of GDSs kept traditional tools, innovative third-party technology providers such as PASS Consulting Corporation (PASS), TRX or G2 SwitchWorks – the last two sold their technologies already – released new POS desktops and early introduced new technologies that would soon satisfy travel agencies’ needs: multi-GDS connection and graphical user front-ends.  Continue reading

Much has happened during the last days. It all started in Tunisia with the self-immolation of a street vendor that led to massive protests and ultimately the end of the Tunisian regime. In a short time, protests spread across the entire region affecting countries such as Jordan, Morocco and Yemen. However, the protests in these countries are nothing compared to what is happening in Egypt right now.

Over the last days hundreds of thousand people have been demonstrating in Cairo, Alexandria, Luxor and other Egyptian cities to end the 30-year long rule of President Mubarak. Continue reading

Ancillary Revenues – Blessing or Curse?

According to a study recently published by Amadeus and IdeaWorks Airlines’ ancillary revenues will increase from $13.5 billion in 2009 to $22.6 billion this year. In 2009 United Airlines had a total of about $1.5 billion in ancillary revenues.

For airlines ancillary revenues accounted for a huge part of their total revenues, like Allegiant (29.2%), Spirit Airlines (23.9%) and RyanAir (22.2%).
